Fairweather Favorites

Let's talk food!
But, before we do that, I realize that my blog description may give the impression that I am a foodie - which I am, if the definition of foodie is "someone who loves all kinds of foods but generally must rely on others for its preparation."
Credit for this image goes to the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, which is still in business despite their terrible ad writers!
Yep, I am 'that girl', the one who flips through cookbooks and watches the cooking channel, the one who's culinary skills are 80% imagined and 20% learned from my grandmother.
But, despite my questionable culinary creds, I have over the years developed some well-set opinions related to food.
  1. Nobody makes a better meatloaf than mom.  Ironically, this tenet seems to be universal.  So, there are apparently 7 billion 'best meatloaf' recipes as of the time of my typing this article.
  2. The best cooking chocolate available comes from Scharffen Berger out of San Francisco, Ca. The problem with Scharffen Berger chocolate is I can't keep it in my pantry long enough to cook something - it's also an all around great nosh!
  3. 99% of the population cannot tell the difference between a $15 bottle of wine and a $1,500 bottle of wine.  So, next time you throw a shindig, decant the sucker and make up a story about rare vintages and isolated monasteries...
  4. Lastly, and this is very important, one should NEVER put peas in Tuna Casserole.  It's a culinary crime.
